Finding Knowledge

There are ways to learn how to play guitar other then lessons. I know that everyone learns differently, but this I feel is a good order to get good at guitar.
1. Get professional lessons are learn chords. Not power chords---regular chords.
2. Use those chords to start playing some of those boring simple songs everyone has to learn.
3. Play around-learn. Get used to the guitar
4. Once you have chords down for sure, see professional help again for power chords.
5. Learn to play these power chords, how they work, and start understanding tablature.
6. Play around more and impress your friends and your family with your success.

I also strongly recommend playing guitar with someone else who already knows how to play. Not just to use them as a teacher directly, but to watch them and learn how they do things. This is how I learnt how to play by watching and mimmicking licks and songs someone was playing on guitar.

Some more random tips for success.
-Play with someone
-Look at guitar tablature websites. They will provides you with 'tabs' for those who are not good at playing by ear.
-Watch Videos on the Net- Youtube.com is a GREAT site for guitar learning from people that know what they are talking about.
-Never think you know it all. Guitar learning is endless. There is no way one person can know every trick out there.
-Stay positive-Do NOT give up. You will regret it if you do. For some people it takes longer then others. You will catch on!
-Ask Questions-

Good luck to all those learning. This is what I feel is the most self-satisfying and enjoyable hobbie there is.
